WHAT IS PEX PIPE?
PEX pipe conducts the hot water from the outdoor wood boiler to the building to be heated. After the heat is released the water is returned back to the boiler to be reheated.
WHY SHOULD I USE PRE-INSULATED PEX PIPE?
Pex pipe is insulated and buried in the ground to keep the water hot. When the water enters the building it is used in a heat exchanger, baseboard heating or in-floor radiant heating.

Wood Heating Solutions premium underground insulated pex tubing is custom made. It is thicker than most Pex Pipe so it loses very little heat per 100 feet. Our Pex Pipe 3 wrap and 5 wrap are foil wrapped around each layer of insulation to lock in the heat along. Plus there is insulation between the red and blue supply and return pipes. “One of frequently asked questions we get is “can PEX be buried”? Yes, our PEX can be buried. The PEX tubing insulation that we sell is meant to be underground, as it is the protective outer tubing that surrounds the insulated PEX pipe.
Also, from talking with people about installing wood furnaces we know that many are curious if 2 inch PEX pipe is better than 1 inch. From our experience, 2 inch pipe allows too much water to run through and the best diameter is 1 inch PEX pipe. Remember, you can buy PEX tubing that is either insulated or raw. Make sure you are getting insulated pipe when using for outdoor wood furnace installation.”
